I was going to trade my 2005 pontiac for a 2004 cadillac. The cadillac looked great but upon asking the dealer for a carfax he scoffed at me, once receiving the carfax I saw the car wasn't just totaled out once, but was rebuilt and totaled out a total of 3 times. And the carfax report valued the cadillac at $2800, which he was asking $7,900 for. Needless to say carfax might have saved my life.
