I spent a good bit of time looking at various cars trying to find the right combination of features as well as one with a good history and CarFax helped immensely. I learned one particular car had actually been declared a total loss and then rebuilt and in another accident that would have made it a total loss, none of which was disclosed and I think some of which the current owner didn't know. In the end it was very helpful to be able to go look at a car and essentially know as much about it as the current owner. I was eventually able to find the right car and knowing the history that I did on the car was able to better negotiate a fair deal. I would never buy a used car without CarFax.
