Carfax actually helped me when I traded my car in. The dealer's offer for my car was insultingly low and they claimed it had been reported as "wrecked." This wasn't true as I had bought the car brand new and never involved in any accident. So I used a Carfax report that showed that my car had never been in an accident, one owner, and actually worth more than the KBB value, to get a fair deal for the trade.
