While looking at a 2002 Subaru in Oregon, we asked the used car dealer if he had the CarFax information on the car. He had some kind of alternate car reporting document that he showed us that said the car had been properly serviced and that it had no problems. The CarFax report (along with a mechanic we hired to inspect the car) both verified that the car had spent most of its life as a fleet vehicle in the North East part of the United States and had limited service during its life. Parts of the car were so corroded and in bad shape, something we would never have learned if we had not gone the extra mile and checked the car out thoroughly. We dodged a bullet thanks to CarFax.
