I had purchased a CarFax before I bought my car. It was clean. 12 months later I discovered that an accident had occurred with the previous owner over 2 years earlier but had not been recorded on the CarFax! Had I known this I would have been able to negotiate a much better price (if I bought the car at all). As it is, it is now devalued for when I sell it myself. The long delay in getting and/or posting that accident info has convinced me not to trust CarFax in the future. I had no recourse with the dealer.
