The dealer supplied a CARFAX, but I bought one of my own. The report said my car was pristine. Over the next few weeks, starting on the drive home, I uncovered a steady trail of evidence my car had been wrecked. A little over $2000 in repair and replacements later, my car is now in pretty good shape. CARFAX is to be believed with a great deal of caution. To be fair, the former owner never reported an incident, and got some cheap cosmetic repairs to make the car presentable, avoiding a damaging CARFAX report.
