I bought a 1996 Toyota Camry from the estate of a family friend. It had a rebuilt/salvage title, which surprised me. Vehicle was involved in minor accident in 2010 and fell victim to the 75% rule--if cost to repair exceeds 75% of book value, car must get a rebuilt/salvage title. At time, car was worth $2400 and had damage a little over $1800, which is relatively minor. Car Fax report showed that damage was minor, no airbag deployment, and major maintenance performed by selling dealer, such as timing belt replacement, etc. Car Fax took worry out of purchase.
