On Sunday I purchased a car and updated the details on line. The prompt was an operator would be with me soon- didn’t wait long but the operator was chat room who asked if my details were correct? I said ‘yes’ and then was directed to online payment screen. This asked for customer reference- which I had forgotten- and so couldn’t go through with the additional payment to commence immediate insurance cover. Meanwhile the chat room had disappeared and left me stranded having bought a car that I couldn’t insure! If I was able to talk to an operator to take payment this wouldn’t have happened. Additional to this I didn’t know if my old car insurance had been cancelled while waiting payment for new policy. Terrible system.
