Currys' delivers sob stories, not product. Ordered an American Fridge-Freezer which, I admit is a bit big and heavy. Other important information is that there is a staircase that it has to go up (as we live in the flat above a pub). The stairwell isn't huge, but...well, I'll get to that in a bit. I was so excited to be getting it 2 days after ordering it. Currys' delivery team pulls up and ... they they state that it is too big to fit through the door to the flat. I'm gutted. The fridge-freezer has, for its shortest measurement, a depth of 72 cm. My door frame? 70 cm. So, upon being told that it is not possible to deliver, my lovely lady and I start looking online for alternatives. Finding an option, I returned to the store to seek out my salesman from two days earlier. Explaining the situation, he enlightened me to some extremely intriguing information: Take the doors off (using a simple "open the door and lift method" and the depth becomes a mere 60 cm. WOW! I go to the customer service desk and get my fridge-freezer set for a new delivery! My Currys' rating? * * * * * (5 Stars) A few days later (due to work, we couldn't get delivered again for 4 days) here comes the delivery crew. Currys' delivery team pulls up and ... they state that they aren't allowed to deliver up more than 3 steps. What? Apparently, they don't send enough team members out to be able to maneuver a 95 kg fridge-freezer up a set of stairs to the flat above and fears of hernias and other whiny injuries. They refuse to deliver. My Currys' rating? * * (2 Stars) Upon calling up their customer "I don't care" team, I was informed that the drivers indicated that it was a spiral staircase. Having worked in furniture delivery (sleeper sofas, cabinets, hutches, etc.), I know that a spiral staircase would have been an impossibility. The thing is...it's not a spiral staircase! There is a flight of stairs, then a landing, then another flight of stairs. Yes, it's about 20 steps, but nothing that shouldn't be able to be done with a competent delivery crew (including the apparent management team that makes sure that there are enough team members going to handle the delivery). My offer? A door-step delivery. WOW! I can have it delivered to the bottom of my stairs and they will just leave it there and laugh their way back to the office and their paycheck for doing nothing. The customer service team reviewed photographs of the staircase that I sent them (with measurements giving a minimum of 26 cm free space at the most narrow point if the doors are off the fridge). And they supported the decision that it couldn't be done. Fortunately, this is a pub. We have a lot of different people that come through here, including a "removals team" who laughed at the incompetence of this team. Now, it cost me £15/head (x 4 blokes) to have this delivered up these stairs. The doors were removed, not as easily as I was led to believe, but after removing 15 screws from the top and 6 screws from the bottom plate. This removed a nice bit of weight from the product. 4 guys delivered this up the staircase (not once touching the side rails) and deposited the item gently on the landing at the top of the staircase. They removed the old fridge from inside the unit (which Currys' **IS** going to come pick up, you can count on that - NOT) then gently moved the American-style product in, quickly reattaching the bottom plates and the doors. Two of these "removals guys" were laughing and joking about they should leave their job to go get paid to do nothing but drive around and tell people that they can't deliver a product. I have a feeling that Currys' will be the butt of our jokes for some time to come. I expect Currys to pay for this delivery that they should have been able to action. Do I expect that they will? No. I expect Currys to pick up the old fridge freezer which I paid for? Do I expect that they will? No. I expect Currys to assess what they offer their customers in regard to delivery. Do I expect that they will? No. My Currys rating? * (1-Star, only because you are not allowed to give ZERO. Will I purchase from Currys again without proper restitution? No. Will I recommend Currys? No. Do yourself a favour. Shop elsewhere until Currys can learn what it means to offer a service to its customers.
