Wasn't at all sure when I unpacked the towel as to how it could possibly replace a conventional towel but it most certainly does. It both dries me and dries itself very quickly. The large towel is enormous and the hair wrap works a dream as there is no need to rub hair dry it is much kinder, and therefore reduces hair loss, an added bonus ! I bought both for a holiday so can't comment on the sand free claim...yet
