BEWARE if DPD's driver does not scan in your parcel collected from a DPD Collection Point BEWARE There is a hole in DPD's local parcel collection service that allows parcels to go "missing". When the driver collects the parcels from a DPD Collection Point like Matalan, the driver can accidentally forget to scan in your parcel and boom, its "lost" forever. I dropped my Christmas Presents parcel off at Matalan, Stockton-on-Tees on Sat 6th December 2020. Got a receipt and left the parcel. Did not have any idea DPD would not be picking up until following Tuesday!! But did see on DPD's tracking system that it was booked in at the Matalan Collection Point. I checked in every day to see if it had gone, but each day it was again checked in as still there at the Collection Point (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday). On Wednesday I checked again and found there was no update but thought, "it must have been collected and the system has not registered it yet". How wrong I was! Having just now been to Matalan they tell me it must have been collected as it is not in the DPD room and they would have registered it as "awaiting collection" as they had done on previous days. As it happened, the DPD van was just collecting parcels from Matalan whilst we were there, so the manager and the DPD drivers did a double check of the room - "no, it has gone was the reply". So telephoned DPD, to be told if you have problems you have to use their Live Chat which only shows itself when you 'pretend' to set up a new parcel delivery order - really??!! So it turns out DPD know who the driver was for that day but cannot tell which hub or depot the parcel went to because - the parcel was not scanned in. Matalan must know how many parcels in total are collected (taken) from their keeping but surely someone should be checking that if 29 parcels are taken from Matalan by the DPD driver then 29 parcels should be scanned into that van for that collection point? Guess not..... So the DPD driver can collect all the parcels but no one checks that the parcels collected are actually scanned in, and if they are not well where do those "missing as not scanned in" parcels go to? The Live Chat told me they would investigate at the depot to try and find it, so I asked which depot, they replied they could not tell me as it had not been scanned in. So when I said well how do you intend to set up an investigation when you don't know the depot? They then said they could not tell me the depot name because of Data Protection. I said all I wanted to know was they knew which depot the parcel should have gone to because they knew the driver who had collected that day, the round code he would have had and which depot he could be expected to drop it off at. Got same reply about Data Protection. So I guess I am asking questions that cannot be answered as I try to understand how a parcel goes missing when collected by a DPD driver from a secure location such as the one from Matalan. I just want that parcel found and delivered to my sister but have been left feeling it is not going to happen.
