I do not personally like having to set up an account just to buy a product. Now, having my details and not signing up for any further information, who knows where my email address will be sold to! Also, as a software trainer and designer, when setting up the account, the fields that are mandatory should be marked that they are mandatory. When I completed my address, I did not want to list my telephone number so left it blank, only to be told "not a valid phone number" - no surprise as I had left it blank. I find that sort of information farming intrusive and unnecessary from a personal point of view.
