I've had a smart meter for five months. It hasn't worked. There have been two visits by the installation team. one to replace the first meter. Then they knocked out my storage heaters. They keep promising to get it sorted but never do. My bills are enormous because they're all estimates - and wild estimates for someone like me living in a one-bedroom flat.
