Nothing but praise for EneregySage. They offer information, ratings of equipment and contractors, and a vetting process that is very helpful. Our local utility, Puget Sound Electric, offered only a list of recommended contractors. EnergySage's resources and help, along with MANY YouTube videos, helped me to determine my needs, the appropriate equipment and configuration, before dealing with contractors.
It's worth noting that contractors aren't a reliable source of information. One person told me that I could integrate my 110-vac generator with the proposed system. After studying the manuals for the proposed equipment, I determined that he was wrong, as he later acknowledged. Solar inverters produce 240-vac. I ended up purchasing a new generator.
In my selected system, I will be able to use the new generator to charge the batteries, in the event of a prolonged grid failure, with insufficient sunlight to power the house. This is far better than a system where the generator could not charge the batteries, but must be used to power the house directly.
