These mats are great for my purposes. They don't slide on the wood, yet they are a terrific, cleanable protectors of the surfaces and underlying decoration. It perfectly fits my pre-school granddaughter's table - and, I discovered that it was easy to remove some small missteps with nail polish, as well as spilled milk and/or spaghetti-o's.
