I am sorry that I haven't had time to complete this yet but now I have I hop that you will respond - if not I will contact you under separate cover.
I have used the lounges at Manchester for probably 8 or 9 years as has my daughter who now lives and works in Singapore so travels to the Uk several times a year.
ON the day in question- Saturday July 4th I was booked into the lounge from 11.a.m and on arrival it was extremely busy - which in itself was not a problem as I was travelling alone so joined a couple at a table where there was a spare chair.
However with in the hour the lounge was bursting at the seams, and tempers were becoming extremely frayed., at 12.15 I went to exit the lounge to visit the restrooms and couldn't get through the doors due to 12-15 people being camped at the door who were all booked into the Lounge but being denied entrance as the lounge was full.
The girls were requesting that people went for a walk around and returned in 15-20 minutes - which they were obviously not prepared to do as they may then be behind further people trying to gain entry, this whole episode led to a very unsavory atnmosphere. and the girls were then resorting to visiting tables in the lounge and requesting that people who were on flights due to depart please leave the lounge.
AS you are only allowed 3 hours prior to your flight and there were no delayed flights everyone in the lounge was within their allotted and paid for time frame .
The whole point of the lounge is to relax and begin your holiday in the right frame of mind - had I wanted constant intervention and haranguing I would not have paid for the lounge but sat on the plastic seats in the main departure area surrounded by screaming children.
Can I add that this is in no way a reflection on the staff who were doing their best in very difficult circumstances , rearranging chairs to try and sit people together - but the cold facts are that the lounge was overbooked by some 15-20 people - who is responsible for this ? it is simple mathematics- you only book the seats that you have available .
AT the start of some 18 hours travelling this was not how I wanted to begin my visit to my daughter, and this is not the first time we have had cause to complain- my daughter returned to the UK for a friends wedding last year and was travelling back at the same time, & terminal as the newly weds and as a wedding present organized the lounge for the start of their honeymoon complete with Champagne - all pre paid - it took her over an hour and 4 requests to eventually get the champagne which then left them little time to enjoy it, you did recompense her for the inconvenience, but it rather begs the question - are you over committing on a regular basis
I await your comments with interest.
