It was my first experience using the aspire lounge. I booked it for my elderly mother and myself as we had about 5 hrs to wait between flights going from Heathrow to Baltimore USA. I had ordered wheelchair assistance for my mother for her reduced mobility. I was asked if I could push the wheelchair to the aspire lounge myself from the plane as there was no one available to assist which I did. Having successfully gone through arrivals etc I eventually arrived at the lounge for 12.30. We queued to get in and when we eventually got through admissions. I manoeuvred the wheelchair through a corridor with tables at one side .... Full of course as they had comfy chairs !!! I then negotiated the wheelchair through further obstacles of chairs, bags, people, staff without any assistance to find an empty table. It was difficult to say the least. I had to do a U turn as all tables were fully occupied. Eventually we waited for a business man to pack his laptop and go and had a table.. My mum wanted out of the wheelchair and onto a normal chair ... Where to put the wheelchair was another problem.... I blocked a space but no one seemed bothered so parked it. I cleared the table myself, putting the dirty crockery on the bar. Mum wanted a hot water. No hot water available. The hot drinks machine had broken and was being fixed.... Several people were asking when it would be ready.... 10 mins was the standard reply..... a further two hours down the line.... It was still 10 mins!!!! Pleased to say it did get mended just before we left!!!! But no hot drinks available during most of our 3 hour allotted time. There were no cold glasses or any glasses by the refrigerator for cold drinksso had to go and queue at the very busy bar ( remember ... No hot drinks)! for a nice warm glass !!!! Food was ok, nothing special.... A mixture of peanuts was available .... Help yourself ... There was a ladle to do this but men were delving in with their hand .... Totally unhygienic... Totally gross. Overall I would say don't bother booking in. It's not worth it. Totally unfriendly for Wheelchair users and definitely not worth the £70 for the two of us. Suffice to say I have not booked in for our return journey home. By the way, we booked into the Premier Lounge at Leeds/ Bradford before our flight to Heathrow and it was fabulous... brill food, lots of space, clean tables, comfy chairs, fabulous helpful, cheerful staff .....No comparison ..... Just saying!
