We arrived just after 8.30am to the Aspire lounge in Terminal 2 @ Manchester Airport. There was quite a long queue and as we got to the front, a supervisor came to the host to say as it was very busy and therefore not accepting any new passengers, meaning anyone with a later flight was rudely asked to come back at 9.30am. On hearing this news that we were being forced to come back later, we kindly refused due to having a pre-ordered bottle of champagne. The response from the host was that we could still have this at 9.30 - when we explained this would have only allowed half an hour to drink a full bottle of champagne due to a boarding time of 10:10. As this was a treat, we didn't want to rush, plus it would have made the ongoing 11 hour flight less enjoyable as a result and had the potential to ruin the start of our holiday. The host kindly at this point understood our concerns and let us through, at which point the supervisor came out and told us to come back so we had to reiterate what we had said to the host. Again begrudgingly, we were let in as we agreed to stand on a perched point. This tainted the start of our holiday and left a sour first impression, particularly as it was our first experience to a Manchester Airport lounge, and as we had paid for this priviledge. On a positive note, once we were inside, the service and friendliness of the staff was great. The bacon felt slightly on the edge of being under-cooked and the eggs over scrambled but the selection of food other than that was good. What was however, the final straw, was the group behind us were told to come back at 9.30am and not allowed access at the time, which they argued the case, just as we did. Once they returned they were then given reserved seating and complimentary drinks as an apology (opening three bottles of Prosecco just for their group). As you can image, we paid £78 in total, had to have to argue our way into the lounge, made to feel like we couldn't enjoy our champagne that was starting the holiday of a lifetime for us and had to stand for the entire time, therefore when we saw the group behind being compensated for the clear overbooking of the lounge, we were and still are not best pleased. In short, you shouldn't take bookings for a three hour period that cannot be honoured and as a result was left disappointed and see no future reason why we would pay for a Manchester Airport Lounge on future trips.
