We ordered a tent on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. and paid for next day delivery. The website stated that orders placed before 7 p.m. would be delivered next day. When we got the order confirmation email, it stated orders placed before 4 p.m. would be delivered next day. Due to this, we tried repeatedly to contact Field and Trek to find out when the item would be delivered. Unfortunately, the lack of a customer services phone number made this pretty much impossible as the contacting by email has a quoted reply time of 1 to 5 days. Not much help when chasing a next day delivery order. We even tried phoning stores but none of them would answer. We stayed in all day in case it arrived. As we had no contact from F&T at all on Friday we decided to cancel the order that night. In any case, the original order confirmation stated that at that stage the order had not been accepted and would not be accepted until a dispatch email had been sent.
I was very surprised and angered to find that my credit card had already been charged for an order that hadn't been accepted. I hope that this is refunded very quickly.
On Saturday, we were surprised to get an email from Yodel to say they would be delivering our F&T order today. We still hadn't had a dispatch email from F&T. The Yodel driver arrived around 10:15 but I refused delivery as we now had the order placed with another company. About an hour later, F&T finally sent the dispatch email, after the goods had been returned.
Whilst the goods were brought to us within two days this was not within the expectations we had from the information on their website. We still would have been happy to accept the order being delivered on the Saturday had we been able to find out on Friday that this was when it would be delivered.
May I recommend that:
1) the website information is amended to say "after 4 p.m.", if this is the case.
2) the customer services number is made available on the website.
3). More customer service staff are employed so that response times are brought in line with generally accepted levels for a distance selling company.
