I was contacted by an agent who cold called. He said that they were doing a "Green Allowance" promotion in the area and wondered if I would like a quote. He was polite and respectful. An appointment was made for a salesman to attend the next day.
The salesman attended and submitted his "pitch" Overall it seemed that the materials were of very good quality and the "Green Allowance" was generated by the company selling the old windows for scrap and passing this back to the customer. The salesman was polite and respectful.
So why the one star?
When the quote was given, I told the salesman that it was far too expensive. He contacted his "manager" and immediately reduced it by around 20%. I thought "this sounds familiar" and sure enough after several other contacts with his "manager" the quote was reduced by a total of around 40%. On that basis I declined.
When I consider that if I had accepted the first quote I would have paid roughly four times the "reasonable" price and even at the "highly discounted price" I would have paid well over the "reasonable" price.
It may be that the company is very good and the materials excellent, but this tactic for selling is dubious at best and illegal at worst.
