I followed the simple instructions on the packet to activate the starter and had no problems. I looked online for recipes many of which seemed very complicated. I chose a Paul Hollywood recipe which looked easy, it worked. I have found leaving the loaf to rise overnight in an unheated room gives a much better result. I may have to try the fridge when the weather heats up. Am now trying other recipes.
