Took out car insurance as it was quite a lot cheaper than Churchill and included extras that they didn't offer. I made sure to email them to tell them not to automatically renew too. However, when I checked my account I found the price had gone up by a little under 20 percent. I queried this and they said the CUE database had shown a Fault Claim from a few years ago. I told them this was a mistake and there was no claim. They said there was no mistake and my previous insurer would have to provide written proof that the claim in question was invalid/not actioned.
When I contacted Churchill they explained that not only was the claim in question invalid but that they have had a LOT of issues caused by the RAC trying this on at the moment. The Churchill claims operator explained RAC were interpreting the data relating to the claim incorrectly. This obviously allowed them to raise the price AFTER I'd agreed the policy fee. Fortunately I was within 14 day cooling off period and as I challenged the terms on which the policy was sold the RAC waived the cancellation fee.
For a company that has such heritage, this blatant fraud is disgusting and will damage the RAC's reputation. You don't get to be market leaders by cheating your customers!
My review rating is for the RAC as a whole. The gentlemen from the RAC who dealt with me on live chat was helpful and cooperative.
