I love the idea you have, however, in actual use, I am less than enthused. I am ex-military and loved the idea of a lay-flat belt buckle. In practice though, it does not actually lay flat. Maybe because I'm fat, but as an engineering rating in the Navy, I see one solid improvement that would provide your advertised flatness. The end grommet that holds the buckle is square and this is the area I feel needs improvement. I believe that should you make it differently where the plastic retention part meets the buckle. The plastic retention part is the shape of a T. I think it should be canted more like the upright being canted to the left to allow that part of the buckle to lay flatter. To be clear instead of a capital T, cant the vertical portion of the T- 90 to 120 degrees to the left. This will make that portion of the buckle lay much flatter.
Having stated my opinion, I weigh 250 at 68" tall with a diabetic gut. I wear my belt around my waist as I have all my life, never over my belly. Making it tight and loose takes a bit of practice, but the part where the buckle is retained by the plastic piece does not lay flat. I believe modifying it would improve it. It may be because I am a fat guy, maybe not. Either way, I believe that change would improve your product. Please see attached photo.
