Gearing up for my first trail ultra and Harrier brand kit seemed to be getting a lot of good reviews. I'm not minted so cost is always a big factor when looking for kit and Harrier hit the sweet spot for me - not cheap but still affordable. I bought the Kinder 10L Race Vest and Catbells Pro Z poles and trialled both on a 24K fell run. I have nothing much to say about the vest! It was comfortable and unobtrusive which is as much as I could hope for! I used a 2L bladder and the tube routing was great (once I figured the route was through the shoulder strap!) - I just tucked the end under the chest strap. Oh - just remembered a problem - the chest strap anchors. It's nice to be able to move them but one fell out at home so I was able to find it and one fell out again when I got on the bus from the end of my run - luckily I heard it hit the floor. Maybe some further work required to get these to be more secure.
I've used poles a lot in mountain walking but the Catbells Pro are the first Z-poles I've had. They're nice! My trial route had a lot of ups n downs so I deliberately practiced stowing/deploying them in the loops on the vest - easily done without stopping (walking). I used a "releasable trigger cable tie" (just googled what they're called!) to keep the poles tightly packed together (see attached photo) and this worked very well. Poles were quick and easy to deploy and fold. Also light and compact enough to hold both folded in one had while running the flats.
I reckon Harrier will be my go-to for future gear purchases! Champion!
