Summary: What a wonderful group of folks! Sara and Ben were extremely responsive and helpful. They gave me the care I needed when I needed it the most. My mood is much improved, I can follow through better in daily tasks and my sleep is better overall. App was glitchy at first, but ended up working in the end. I wish they worked directly with insurance. 5 stars isn't high enough! Detailed story, just in case :)... I humbly play the "single-mom-of-four card" only to emphasize that my ADHD affects their quality of life tremendously. "If mama ain't happy, ain't NOBODY happy, right? But seriously, ADHD symptoms for me interfere with basic life tasks including emotional regulation to provide the redirection and patience for my little spicy-brains. I lost not one, but two careers and a marriage wondering "What the heck is wrong with me? Why can't I just be normal?" What a learning curve... Just like so many women at my age, I suffered for decades in silence, DECADES!!!. Diagnosed a couple of years ago as "combined-type" by an amazing PCP. I had already tried (and failed) SO MANY sleep/anxiety/ depression meds that made me feel worse, even hopeless. I even went through TMS. With meds, I started being able to get my you-know-what together and even felt more like myself. I saw the top of my dresser for the first time in like 3 years. My kids noticed. "Mama, you didn't yell at us today. Are you calmer?" My depression and anxiety scores improved drastically and then... I moved to Tennessee..... "Are you sure you have ADHD?" "You're an adult. Adults don't have ADHD" "You're not in school or working, so you don't need medication." Lies, all of them. Denial, gaslighting, CYA politics. So, let's just say I kissed some frogs in my search for a competent provider. Lot's of "bad doctor breakups" and even one really possessive provider that tried to make decisions for me, even scheduled appointments I didn't want. Advice: If there's a methadone clinic affiliated in any way... Run! lots of confirmation bias. Just. Run. Fast. But then I found HealthPiper. Sara spent well over an hour to take a thorough history. She was so compassionate and respectful when it came to listening to my needs and concerns. She consulted me as an expert on my own mind and body. She worked WITH me to make decisions about MY care and treatment. I felt that she appreciated my curiosity, intelligence and level of education (Master's degree with 100+ practicum hours). She answered ALL of my questions. I left the intake process feeling confident and reassured that she understood me and was capable of handling the complexity of my symptoms. This was in stark contrast to the horrendous experiences with two local companies that claimed to be the "first and best choice" for "patient-focused care" or the other that threw around the words "compassion and understanding" without actually practicing those ideals. (ADHD + abrupt discontinuation of ADHD med + concussion = complete shutdown from stress and overstimulation) Sara and Ben worked together to file the necessary prior authorization paperwork to get my insurance to cover my medication when previous providers had insisted "TennCare won't cover it." Within just a day or two I was able to resume my treatment and come back out of the spiral of dysfunction and crisis I ended up in. The only reason that I ended up ultimately cancelling the HealthPiper service after a couple of months was due to insurance. I have since found another provider that, like Sara, took the time to read my records and also works directly with my insurance. I appreciate the ability to discontinue services through HealthPiper at any time without penalty or prejudice. Sara even called in a "bridge" prescription. The only functional challenges I faced were around trying to figure out glitches in the app, but Sara also had phone and email contact for those struggles. I used my own therapist I've had for over 3 years. In the end, even if I end up having to pay off a credit card bill or ask my church for help, the alternative would have been much, much worse.
