Federal Way, WA Almost a year ago, I began my search for a way to relieve stress and to blow off steam. After experiencing some situations where I felt powerless, I had been feeling like I had no outlet in which to get out my anger and frustration in a healthy way. So I decided to search for places where I could take kickboxing classes. I thought about joining an MMA gym, but they seemed intense and unapproachable. ILoveKickboxing's $19.99 special for 3 classes and a free pair of gloves popped up during my search, so I figured that I might as well give it a shot. The first class I took was intense, but I left with a smile on my face. I decided to become a member that day. It is not the cheapest gym that you will join, but the benefits outweigh the cost. I have been an athlete my whole life and come from an athletic family, but after graduating college I began to notice that since the gym was no longer a 5 minute walk from my dorm, I was not as motivated to work out. When I did find time to work-out at my local gym, I found myself taking it easy and simply going through the motions. ILoveKickboxing is not an easy workout for anyone, whether you be in great shape or someone who has never been active. Over 9 months and 100+ classes later, I can tell you that I still find the classes challenging. Some members weigh themselves along their kickboxing journeys, which is crucial for some people to find motivation. Personally, I have tried to avoid that method and instead focus on how my clothes are fitting and how strong I feel. Since joining ILoveKickboxing I have gained a subconscious confidence that is hard to explain. I don't feel as scared and insecure as I once did. I have noticed that I have become much more accepting and loving of my body and its flaws as well as its strengths. Last summer, for the first time ever since being a kid, I wore a two-piece bikini while on my cruise. I was nowhere near my lowest weight I've ever been, but I still felt confident in myself and my fitness that I didn't care that my stomach was not flat or that my body wasn't perfect. Like I said before, it is not the cheapest work-out route you can take, but if you are someone who finds it hard to motivate your own exercise regimen (like probably 90% of the population), then I would recommend ILoveKickboxing. The instructors are very nice and willing to help with whatever goals you want to reach, and you'll find that each instructor's unique teaching style will benefit you in different ways. Give it a shot!
