I had difficulty getting my ford cd 6000 out (very tricky) and did not have a record of the code after having changed the battery. To restart the radio i needed the serial number from the cd body, if you are lucky Halfords will remove it for £10.
Once I had serial number I got the 4 letter code from jonjoe I got the radio going again on 1st attempt!,but do check online how to enter the code once you have it. Thanks to Jonjoe it saved me money and the hassle of going back to the dealer.
