You know, I was a 2 1/2 pack a day smoker for 20 years, and I suffer from a lot of stress and anxiety related disorders . Now, I’m only a little ways into quitting , so I’ll check back in, but so far : You expect quitting to be life changing . You’re told you have to give up all your triggers. But my triggers are partly, mostly, things I love. Coffee in the morning outside with my dog, a glass of wine on the porch with music , playing a game with online friends . Things I don’t want to give up. Things I won’t give up because quality of life matters too.
But the Shift changed the equation. I haven’t had to give up my “triggers” because I’m not just quitting nicotine, I’m replacing the habit with something healthy that actually reduces stress instead of creating this weird illusion of stress relief by feeling better only when I get a fix.
I’ll check back in in a month or three. Maybe my life will have Shifted even more.
