Our purchase from Land of beds was a heavy, costly and uncomfortable mistake. This is a lesson in why you need to try before you buy. We bought a bed with two mattresses which join together, with a total weight of 103.6 pound or 47 kilos. These beds are being sold without any Health and Safety warning that they are MUCH too heavy for an ordinary couple to turn and rotate, let alone weekly for three months as Hypnos says in its brochure - but is NOT in L of B advertising. Splitting the two beds and mattresses is difficult and we can’t easily do it. We were sold on the claims about Hypnos beds being the world’s most comfortable, award winning bed, blah. In fact, the bed we bought is not nearly as comfortable as the four other beds we have, despite us being assured by Land of Beds that “medium” meant the same as it means on our existing beds, by Relyon and Vi-Spring, which cost a lot less and were far easier to turn. We paid £1,804 for a Hypnos Super King Size zip and link bed plus £626.00 for the two headboards which are pushed together. We paid on May 29TH. My wife made the point that we needed delivery urgently as seven guests were arriving on June 30th to stay for up to a month. We were promised delivery updates which we never got. The bed arrived on July 8th and we immediately realized it was hard and uncomfortable: we would not describe it as “medium.” However, because we were busy with guests we did not complain about the bed and ask for our money back and the bed to be removed until three weeks later, when our guests had left –but Land of Beds said we had waited a week too long -21 days. I quote from L of B director Maria Murray: “after this period of time we are not able to accept the return of the bed.” Rival bed manufacturers and retailers like Dormeo, advertise that they offer unhappy customers their money back after up to 60 days. We found every aspect of this bed unsatisfactory and too heavy and awkward for us to manage. It was not possible for us, both in our 70s, to take it apart and put it together again as this involved laying on the flood and fiddling around with a spanner under the bed. A terrible design. Turning the mattresses was not possible for us, and they do not even have handles you can use for this purpose, unlike every other bed we own. The bed is so heavy that the handles are for use only to rotate the mattress, not turn it. These beds should not be sold to anyone without them being warned of the weight problem. Also, we were not told on purchase that the mattress should not be vacuumed as this would damage the upholstery, as per the advice in the brochure which arrived with the bed. We have always vacuumed our mattresses with no harm to the upholstery. In fact we have seen documentaries stating that people must vacuum mattresses to get rid of dust mite faeces. Yet the Hypnos brochure says just to brush it with a soft brush, which cannot be as effective. We regard our purchase from Land of Beds as the worst, most expensive, heavyweight mistake we have made.
