Solid lightweight scooter with 350w motor.
Couple things:
Stem located Battery. This is why I have this scooter. It’s something you can ride in light rain or after rain when the road is wet. Not through puddles more than 3 inches but you won’t feel like you are going to break the scooter if it gets wet. A traditional scooter has a permanent battery in the base and you really shouldn’t ride it that in the rain.
Incredibly light weight - 30 pounds versus 47 might not seem like a big deal but it is. I’m 6’1 240 pound weightlifter male. While I can carry the heavy scooters it gets hard to board a bus or ferry. And my spouse can’t carry the heavier folded scooter.
Low tech, no app or subscription to turn it on.
Removable handlebars are helpful when you need to store or pack the scooter for a trip. My other scooter has lights on the handlebar that are easily broken.
Removable Battery: two things, this is a Panasonic and LG cell UL rated battery. You will see that Samsung Panasonic and LG battery cells are the most reliable, safest, and thoughtfully constructed battery cells in the electic scooter/bike market. You don’t want to go with something lower tiered or you risk and accident. Basically if you forget that it’s charging and you charge too long you will degrade the battery life but your won’t burn your house/apt down. Further you can charge the battery in your home and leave the scooter somewhere else. Huge plus. I got an extra battery but don’t use ever use it for my 10-20 mile per day commute. Always fully charge your battery after you ride, even if it’s for 5 minutes. Learn about batteries to extend their life.
Cons:
The brake: is not as powerful as other scooters. This isn’t really a problem but it is noticeable that you can’t stop as fast as other scooters. To combat this, Levy has a step in the back wheel brake in additional to the handlebar brake. The other scooter I have prohibits that from damaging the motor so I rarely use it but it solves the issue.
Power: With the lightweight design the battery and motor are lower output for weight but it does sacrifice power. If you haven’t been on a scooter, there is no need to do more than 20 mph which this Levy scooter accomplishes. I frequently get yelled at in NYC by pedestrians when I’m cruising plus 20mph on my other scooter bc the scooters are insanely quiet and frankly I don’t mean to but I surprise and scare people. I have less of that with this.
Final thoughts:
Customer Service A++: Another huge plus is the service team for Levy. Read reviews for Segway and you will see very quickly how if you have a problem with your scooter, good luck with non existent customer service.
With Levy I got 5 emails between when I ordered the scooter and when it was delivered. After it was delivered Levy reached out to ask how it was going.
To me that’s really helpful.
If you have never been on a scooter and you want one for commuting with light inclined hills like Manhattan, this is the best scooter for you. You won’t be disappointed.
