My insurance was initially cancelled as they did not receive my NCD even though I had proof that I had sent it twice. I tried to call on Saturday only to find the department was open Mon-Fri. This caused a lot of stress as I was unable to drive my car. On the positive side they sorted out on Monday and got my insurance all set up again.
My suggestion would be weekend opening hours and a bit more communication (perhaps by email or phone as well as letter) when asking for further information.
