I just closed on a house in Katy, TX. I selected Octopus Energy from a long list of providers given its high star reputation. That was on May 13th.
I’m currently living out of state.
The connection was supposed to happen on May 14th but that was cancelled without notifying me. I started to get alerts from my security system that the batteries were running low so I had a family member go check the house this morning (5/16) who confirmed there was no power.
I called this morning at 9am CT and was informed that my request from 5/13 had been cancelled (without notifying me) and was told that getting it up and running was marked “urgent” or priority. And they would be following up every hour and keeping me posted.
I heard nothing for 4 hours so I called again. It had not been marked priority and actually it would be another 4 days before electricity got hooked up and if I wanted it today CenterPoint would charge me $200.
All told I have spent >1 hour on hold with the company today and as of now (2:34PM PT, 4:34PM CT) the issue is still not resolved. I am told that they have requested an urgent hookup from CenterPoint Energy, however at this time the house is still without power.
I am planning on cancelling my plan with Octopus Energy at the first available opportunity. Had I not had an alarm system that I can check remotely, the house would've likely been without power for weeks as they apparently were not planning on informing me that the electricity hookup had been cancelled.
