On 4/20/23 I ordered tickets on line to the Stewart Owen Dance recital scheduled for 4/22/23 at 8 pm at the Diana Wortham theater in Asheville, North Carolina. I do not know what time of the day I did this. I am 75 years old and am not very proficient at using the internet.
Instead of going to the Diana Wortham web site I went to “Ticket Sales” since it appeared to me that this was where I needed to go – not realizing that this was an entirely different web site.
I entered all the required information for the purchase and received a confirmation screen showing that I owed a total of $288.01. Since the price of each ticket was $98 (I ordered two), I was incensed and immediately called Ticket Sales to ask how they arrived at this total. I reached a call center employee who explained the additional fees that their company charges which brought the total to $288. I informed this person that I wanted to cancel the order. He said that I could not do this. I then asked to speak to his supervisor and was told that I could not speak to a supervisor. All of this occurred within 5 minutes of my original on line order.
On the same day (4/20/23) I called Cardmember Services to dispute the charge. This initiated your request for completion of the Dispute Form
On 4/21/23 at 8 am I received an email from Ticket Sales confirming my purchase and it included a link to download the tickets to my mobile device. I did not do this and did not attend the performance.
I also contacted the Diana Wortham Theater to ensure they knew of the charging practices of Ticket Sales. They informed me that they sell a certain number of tickets to this agency and then have no control over what additional fees are charged.
This is robbery. And, to the benefit of Ticket Sales, the internet is very misleading. I understand that due to my confusion I used Ticket Sales’ web site, but since I called immediately to cancel the order, my request should have been honored.
