We purchased a home through Opendoor and are extremely disappointed with the lack of transparency in our experience. After moving in, we discovered extensive pet urine damage to the baseboards and subflooring that had been heavily concealed with air fresheners, new carpet, and paint. The inspection report only noted vague “moisture” issues, and the listing photos appeared digitally enhanced, creating the impression of a clean and well-maintained home.
As a military family with young children, including one with serious respiratory health concerns, this has been more than an inconvenience — it has become a daily health issue. Despite our attempts to remediate with professional cleaning and air purifiers, the odor and contamination persist.
We did receive a small credit at closing, but it was specifically for a broken dishwasher and minor cosmetic items, not for this kind of extensive hidden damage, furthermore, negotiating even that small credit was extremely difficult with their team.
We trusted Opendoor to be transparent and ethical, but we feel the property was misrepresented and material issues were withheld. For families like ours, purchasing a home is a major decision built on trust, and unfortunately, that trust was broken. Reconsider buying from this company.
