Not much is covered for the cost. Once you have insurance, though, you have to keep it because your pet probably has "pre-existing" conditions. Check insurance policies carefully when you adopt a new pet to make sure you're getting the best insurance for your money. I wish I would have researched more. It's not horrible insurance, but it's definitely not the "best" either.
