The insurance was great. No hassles, paid everything with no denials, and paid quickly. The only downside is that our cat died rapidly from cancer, and our dog who also has coverage was receiving a multi-pet discount on his premium. As soon as the cat's pro rated premium was refunded, we were charged for the dog, recouping the discount for the remainder of the year, literally 3 months. That is tacky. Even the IRS is more compassionate. If you lose your spouse you don't need to immediately file as single. Was it a lot of money? No. It's just the principle of the thing in a time of grief.
