I live in Norway and order often from amazon.co.uk and ebay.co.uk. When I buy things from China it takes a long time to come but they always arrive (and with free postage, even for an item costing less than 1 euro).
I've ordered 7 items from the UK which were sent with Royal Mail and 3 of them never arrived, a failure rate of 42%.
I now try to avoid ordering anything that will be sent by Royal Mail. I would rather order from China and wait 5-6 weeks than order from England and not know if it's every going to come.
