I live in a third floor flat with a lift. I am in a wheelchair and use of one arm only. Since I moved here the postman. Has always brought packages that don’t fit in communial letter boxes in to the eight individual flats. Last week he rang my bell and asked me to go down the three floors to sign for and pick up three packages. I explained it was difficult and would he bring it up. He was showing a new postlady the round and they used the stairs. I was waiting with my door open and heard them discussing the situation. The postman told the lady although it was not normally done it was a difficult situation and they had to be a little bit understanding. When they reached my door I then told him it was difficult for me to go down to him. In fact he would have had to wait at least three minutes before I could get myself down. He told me he was no insured to come in the building and the letter box wad his point of delivery but if my letter box was in my front door he would bring it up! His training paid off as this last week the new post lady bent a large thick envelope in half and pushed it in the letter box, ripping the envelope and spoiling the contents in the process. On another day she gained access and left a box on the floor in the commial hall where anyone could have taken it. The other postman have always brought things like that to my door and all the other flats. Guess Royal Mail not disability friendly!
