Royal Mail is really untrustworthy these days. It really doesn't deserve its Royal status.
Don't use Royal Mail unless you use tracking.
Other courier's seem to be better at not losing parcels or birthday cards. If it looks like it might have money or something valuable, chances are that you won't receive it.
