After years of buying with SCS I can quite safely say I won’t be dealing with them again. In 2022 my mother who unfortunately had been diagnosed with cancer was told she needed a recliner chair to support her needs. We decided to buy a Lazy boy sofa as we were confident of its quality . In Nov 2024 I noticed whilst the chair was reclined a huge tear on the side of the sofa. I investigated further and soon realised that part of the structure on the seat next to it had caused the damage as it had been clearly rubbing on a piece of wood each time it was reclined. There was also significant damage to the other seat. I contacted the warranty company who were prompt coming out, they confirmed a manufacturing fault and offered a solution of 1) recovering just the two seat covers and 2) modifying underneath the sofa to stop the problem happening again…. It shouldn’t be happening in the first place, it’s a manufacturing fault !
I asked the warranty company to put the claim on hold as I wanted to speak to SCS as I had concerns over the solutions and didn’t feel my consumer rights and their guarantee promise were being met. By recovering two seats there will be a difference in colour and condition of the rest of the sofa after two years and why should my sofa be modified underneath to meet standards a high quality brand should meet! So much for the 10 Year Guarantee, where you can sit back and relax, knowing that your ScS sofa and/or chair is covered against manufacturing defect ! Is this also a case of being mis sold ? as SCS clearly don’t care. I have emailed the company twice and sent a recorded letter to raise these concerns to try to come up with a suitable and fair solution that meets my consumer rights and meets there guarantee promise but have been ignored and have had no response what-so ever this started in December! My mother is now not using the recliner as she is worried the tear will get worse. I am now going to be perusing this matter further. Caring for an elderly sick mother I need to be investing the time into her and not chasing up a company who once they have your money don’t care about the quality of their products they are selling or the guarantee promises. My mum needs a sofa that she is confident will meet her needs!
