Would have given zero stars if I could have. I had the misfortune of taking out boiler breakdown cover. What a sham of a company. My boiler stopped working and I called them out. First thing they make you do is go through some sort of approval process to see if your claim is valid (alarm bells were ringing). I mean if your boiler is broken it's a valid claim - anyway day later they agreed to send someone round.
He eventually turned up a week or so later and told me it was a fault with either a sensor or my PCB. He managed to start the boiler and told me to give them a call if it happened again. Next thing that happens is I get an email from (not so) Smartcover telling me the fault is intermittent and I am not covered. What kind of joke is that - I paid over £200 for cover that doesn't provide cover. They told me it is for emergency breakdown so they only do temporary fixes. I am now in an argument to get my money back as I want to change to a reliable/reputable company - should have never left British Gas. Be warned!! you do not get the cover you think you are getting - which is even worse than no cover because when you try and claim you are left high and dry facing an unexpected bill.
Please read the 1/2 star reviews - these are people who have tried to make a claim. The 5 star reviews are from people like me who initially got a "so called" 15 minute service on their boiler and were pestered by the company to leave a review after that!!!!
I have now alerted the insurance ombudsman because I want to claim a full refund from these scammers.
