I’m appalled by how Severn Trent Water has treated me. Without any formal credit agreement in place, they placed a black mark on my credit profile over a single late payment — from a bill I never even received. I paid the outstanding amount immediately upon discovering it, yet they have refused to remove the stain from my credit file, even though they have the power to do so.
What’s worse is this isn’t just a technicality — it’s now actively costing me money. The mark on my credit has already led to higher mortgage rates on a recent application. That’s real, lasting financial damage, caused by a company that showed zero willingness to consider the circumstances or show basic fairness.
There was no final warning, no proactive contact, just a swift move to tarnish my record and then hide behind internal policy. It’s a faceless, bureaucratic approach that punishes customers even when they act in good faith and settle their accounts as soon as they’re aware of an issue.
Severn Trent’s refusal to help is not just poor service — it’s negligent and unjust. If this is how they treat people who pay their debts promptly, I dread to think how they treat vulnerable or struggling customers.
Until they do the right thing and correct this, I will be warning others as loudly as possible. This has been an expensive and deeply unfair lesson
