Although my iPhone 12 mini was overheating, and not charging, I was able to make an appointment, and have them look at my device; 90 minutes into my in store genius session, they replaced my iPhone except for the screen; however the screen was not lying flat, so I took it back and they realized they had not removed the blue tape that needed to be removed for the glue to be effective. They removed it, after 2 more visits to the Apple store, and now my replace device works great again.
