I was so excited to receive my socks and the wind has gone out of my sails. Here's why and I will have a follow-up when I receive my new socket and liners; hopefully in a couple of weeks. My residual limb is rather short, approximately 5"/127mm. I am a very active amputee and sweat a lot, so I typically use a "cotton round", those make-up remover pads, in the bottom of my liner to absorb sweat. They work well and hold my liners in contact with my skin fairly well. I wasn't sure what size Swiftwick socks to get, so I chatted (online) with a representative and he graciously got me hooked up with a variety of sizes to try. I have tried all the sizes and the #5 seems to work the best. I do however find it a bit challenging to don the sock and get my liner rolled up. The sock rolls back on itself and takes a couple of attempts to get it positioned correctly. I wore the #5 sock to cut the grass (self-propelled push mower), and after about 1 hour I noticed less liner skin contact. Upon removing my liner I was happily surprised to see no sweat in my liner. The Swiftwick sock does its job quite well! For me, it's the losing contact and my liner getting loose. So, I ask myself; is it the liners? Is it my short residual limb? Should I discontinue all activities where I sweat? NO!!!! Will my soon-to-be new tighter socket assist in all this? These are a few of the questions I will answer in a second review. The product is an awesome idea and I have read many reviews from other amputees and they are happy with them. We, amputees, are all different and this is not a one size fits all item. Thank you Swiftwick for the socks and will continue to use them and provide an update when I get my new gear!!
