I was signed up with the AA Driving School from October 2024. During that time, I had two one-hour lessons. That is all. We were off to a bad start when the instructor cancelled the first lesson. I knew then, it wouldn't improve.
I will say that the instructor himself, Anthony Adams, was friendly, informative, knowledgeable and supportive. I certainly don't blame him for the way things went. He works flat out, six days a week, trying to help students pass their tests. Due to the high turnover and the way AA have structured this driving school business, each instructor is pretty much on a zero-hours contract with AA. There's no way you'll ever get consistent teaching like this. Not a chance.
My lessons were repeatedly cancelled, sometimes at the last minute, or moved to other days (and I do have to say, Anthony was very good at letting me know about this). I wasn't learning a thing. Especially when I was having weeks at a time between lessons. After having two lessons in four months and having three in a row moved or cancelled, I'd had enough. I don't blame Anthony one bit, and if he went independent, I absolutely would learn with him. He's a great teacher. I've given two stars instead of one because there was nothing wrong with his teaching - he was amazing.
The AA, on the other hand, have no business running this driving school. It messes about teachers and students alike. Stick to breakdown cover, AA.
