Thrillophilia & Back in Adventure Trek - SAR Pass Trek (June 1-5, 2024) - Review This review details my experience with Thrillophilia (facilitator) and Back in Adventure (ground service provider) for the SAR Pass trek in Kasol, Himachal Pradesh (June 1-5, 2024). Issues with Thrillophilia: * Communication Breakdown: Despite interactions with Arjun, Rohit, and Kumkum, information wasn't relayed to Back in Adventure, leading to unmet expectations. * Misinformation on Costs: Porter charges were nearly double what I was quoted, and Thrillophilia offered no assistance in resolving the issue. * Subcontractor: The trek was operated by Back in Adventure, a low-standard service provider for treks. * Double Sharing Discrepancy: Despite paying extra for double sharing, a single sleeping mat and substandard tents were provided, unlike what other companies offered. Issues with Back in Adventure: * Rushing Through the Trek: The guide prioritized reaching campsites quickly, neglecting the scenic beauty of the journey. * Minimal Time at Sar Pass: Disappointingly, only 5 minutes were spent at the summit, a significant letdown for a 5-day trek. * Unhealthy Food: Meals were excessively oily with no regard for a balanced diet, unlike other trekking companies. * Insufficient Food Portions: Food quantities were limited, and requests for more were often met with denial or judgment. * Lack of Nutrition on Long Days: An 8-hour trek with just one flatbread and two potato pieces is unacceptable. * No Warm-up/Cool-down: Unlike other companies, there were no pre-trek or post-trek stretches, increasing injury risk. * Missing Briefings: The guide neglected to provide daily briefings, even when requested. His overall demeanour was arrogant. * Safety Concerns: Spikes, crucial for snow sections, were not provided, leading to multiple falls and an ankle injury for a fellow trekker. This carelessness highlights safety lapses. * Hot Water Issues: Basic necessities like hot water were frequently denied, showcasing a disregard for trekkers' comfort. * Disregarded Medical Needs: Despite requesting a double sleeping mat for additional cushioning due to a medical condition, none was provided throughout the trek. * Missing First-aid Kit: The guide lacked a first-aid kit, a critical safety measure on any trek. Recommendations: * Avoid Thrillophilia: Due to their use of sub-par service providers and communication issues, I recommend looking elsewhere for trekking services. * Do Your Research: I encountered reputable companies like Kailashrath, Trek the Himalayas, and TSS during the trek. Research and compare before booking. * Get Everything in Writing: Confirm all details and inclusions in writing before starting the trek to avoid misunderstandings. * Prioritize Acclimatization: Choose a trekking company that prioritizes acclimatization before the trek. This is crucial for adjusting to high altitudes and preventing altitude sickness. * Safety First: Select a company that prioritizes your safety above all else. This includes providing proper gear, experienced guides, and a focus on well-being throughout the trek. I hope this review helps others choose a safe and enjoyable trekking experience.
