We travelled to Sri Lanka in February 2024. TravelLocal put us in touch with a local agent who put together a generally good tour meeting our wish list. We received a brief set of trip notes after confirming our booking. For each day there were a few pictures and one or 2 sentences saying where we were staying and a description such as "Transfer from Wilpattu to Harbarana, afternoon relax by the pool". We expected a more comprehensive itinerary to be provided prior to departure or on arrival. This never materialised which caused a few problems during our trip. Our driver had the same notes. For example our tour included several days of trekking yet the notes did not include the distances, altitudes or the fact that we needed to carry clothes and toiletries for 1 overnight stay. Our driver assumed we knew this. Hence we spent one night in a basic chilly trekking lodge where they didn't even provide soap never mind toothbrushes! We managed but this could have been avoided by clear communication in the trip notes. Another example was the hotel where we were stayed on our wedding anniversary was meat and alcohol free, this would not normally be an issue but it would have been good to know in advance as we spent the previous days at a remote farm stay and were looking forward to a celebratory evening. TravelLocal only sent a very brief feedback request which is a concern as they should be learning from travellers experiences and looking to fix any problems.
