I purchased 3 Custom boxes: 8996 (to myself), 8999 (gift to Beverley Chin (from Jamaica)), and 9000 (gift to Maryam Bhatti (from Bahamas)). All boxes came in great condition. I give 5 stars for the responsiveness as I initially placed 8999 as a full sappodilla box and Alexandria helped me switch to a custom box. I’m very grateful. And she even helped me with the selection of a more mature breadfruit to be used for roasting. Thank you! Everybody has enjoyed the fruit. All the fruit was my selection (not theirs) so some of the selection was not their preference. But they were thrilled to get a taste of home and the tropics this way! I pushed for constructive feedback to help Tropical continue to delight customers, even during this pandemic. Here’s the detailed feedback on order 9000: “ Mangoes: very sweet but hairy. Like Jamaica, Haiti has a variety of mango species to choose from; perhaps the company wants to be more selective and go with the St. Julies which have very small seeds and literally no hair. Tamarinds: sweet & sour as expected. Good selection here. Guineps: didn't look like them from the outside; the ones in the Bahamas have a green skin. Nevertheless just as good. However if you leave outside too long they seem to develop a green mold on the skin. Lychee: good, but I'm not an expert here. These are not natural to the Bahamas Sapodillas: Wasn't sure what they were at first because they were not ripe. Almost overnight they went from very hard and inedible to mushy soft (only good for a smoothie now). I caught a few that were not overripe; sweet but not quite like Bahamian dillies. The latter are basically a wild fruit and very difficult to culture. My understanding is that you can plant a seed and a tree will grow but it takes many years before that tree will ever bear fruit. Also, dilly trees don't like each other so don't try to plant 2 on the same 1/4 acre lot. Instructions upon arrival: Missing from the box but would be extremely helpful for such exotic fruit. Enclosed recipe cards: very helpful and beautifully embossed but perhaps more efficient online. Did I miss a site where others can share recipes? Overall I think the Company's mission and vision are commendable. It's not easy working with 35 different growers in different countries and bringing them all together in one place to ship out fresh in a timely manner. I will definitely consider supporting this enterprise.” - from Maryam Bhatti Thank you so much for being sunshine to the period we are in. You made an old boy feel young again and I appreciate it so much. I look forward to my next order. Sincerely, Sameer Bhatti 202-253-8642 Sameerbhatti@yahoo.com
