I installed Volumio 3.173 on Virtual Box 6.1 and it works like a charm. My hardware is AsRock Silver Pentium j5005 SBC (Single Board Computer) with 16 GB of RAM and a fast SSD. I really love the Manifest skin of Volumio and the fact it contains less greenies than the before ones. I come from Tidal part of the audio world and black/green means for me Spotify = non loseless sound. When I see green, I think poor quality. In Manifest only traces of green remained. I do use external DAC on Wolfson 8740 chip and in Windows 10 -> Settings -> System -> Sound -> Advanced sound settings I was able to dedicate my DAC output especially for Volumio on virtual machine. Works perfect, much more stable and faster than the Volumio 2 in similar config. All the best for hard working team in Volumio :)
