My Land Rover Freelander 2 was purchased from a garage and was bought including a 3 month Gold Warranty from Warranties2000. Basically after 100 miles the warning lights on the dashboard were displaying "Terrain Response not Operating" and "ABS disabled" messages. W etook the car into our local garage who diagnosed N/S/F ABS Sensor and MAP Sensor faults. They also ran the vehicle up to speed on their ramp and found an excessive noise from the PTU which requires replacement with a re-manufactured PTU unit and sleeve. I contacted Warranties2000 who after protracted discussions basically advised that none of the faults were covered by the Gold Warranty, despite the warranty stating that Diffs were covered! They basically said to me that their warranties exclude everything and anything caused by wear! There exact wording was "As stated previously the warranty coverage does not afford protection to any item where the proximate cause of failure is wear. This forms part of our standard terms and conditions which are applicable regardless of the individual vehicles age/ mileage." My response was "On a 14 year old car surely it would be wear that causes problems on virtually all parts, and all this despite the small print stating Diffs were covered on the Gold Covered warranty that came with the car. Surely that is the point of buying a Gold level warranty, - to give the customer peace of mind that a part that is worn and has reached the end of its life would be replaced. On a 14 year old car what part is going to fail that is not due to wear? On your basis you would not pay out on any component and really the warranty is worthless and certainly does not give me as a customer any peace of mind at all." The further response from Warranties 2000 stated "wear will be present when buying a used vehicle which eventually necessitates the replacement of components. The warranty agreement doesn't protect you for this." My subsequent response was "I’d like to know what items are covered by your Gold warranty that are not related to wear on a 14 year old car as pretty much everything and anything could be argued to be caused by wear!! It’s scandalous that a warranty company sell a Gold warranty for an older car but excludes everything and anything related to wear. This is disingenuous and misleading for customers, it is little wonder that your customer ratings are so poor." Warranties2000 then offered as a "goodwill gesture" a replacement second hand (not reconditioned or re-manufatured) rear Diff. I was obviously not going to get a garage to fit a second hand part with no providence/history and that could have been even worse than the Diff that was coming off the Freelander. Warranties 2000 then offered £350 as an offset instead of the Diff they would have sent. I am wring this to warn people thinking of buying a warranty from them that the warranty excludes wear - which in my view on any car that is outside the factory warranty period, most issues are likely caused by wear, so please be very cautious. Warrantyies 2000 also have in their small print notices stating their maximum liability is limited to £1000 and they only pay for up to £45per hour in labour charges, which is pretty much half the current labour rates charged by most garages. Basically, for me the Warranty was not worth the paper it was written on. BEWARE!
